New Life For The Swan Centre! Master Plan Developed

As part of Transform Leatherhead, retail experts Cushman and Wakefield have developed a Master Plan for the long-term development of the Swan Centre, Leatherhead.

The Master Plan will be presented to Mole Valley District Council's Scrutiny Committee on 4th March and the Cabinet on 26th March where a decision to accept the recommendation or not will be made. Cushman and Wakefield will be attending the Transform Leatherhead public forum on 7th March, at 7pm at Leatherhead Theatre to provide the reasons for the recommended Masterplan and take part in a live Q&A session.

Councillor Simon Edge, Cabinet Member for Prosperity said, "As part of Transform Leatherhead we tasked our multi-disciplinary team of consultants to develop anevidence based, long term, development recommendation for the Swan Centre, to act as a catalyst to revitalise the High Street.

"The team undertook an occupier study to find out likely future occupiers, a parameter study that looked at the height and scale of what was possible on the site, and an architectural feasibility study that looked at three potential development options from a light alteration through to completely rebuilding.

"The recommended Master Plan is somewhere in the middle of these development options. It recommends a potential mix of uses, introducing a 5 screen cinema, more food and beverage outlets, a potential co-working facility and residential above the mall area. It also proposes the addition of a 70 bed budget hotel, a possible rooftop garden or vineyard and increasing car parking.

"The next step is to request approval from the Cabinet for this Master Plan. In light of the ongoing challenges faced by retail and wider economic uncertainty, the Transform Leatherhead team propose to test the appetite of specialist developers in this field for partnering with MVDC to implement the Masterplan.

Join us at our Spring Forum on March 7th to hear more and ask questions of the project team."
