Response to Heathrow Airport Limited's Airspace and Future Operations Consultation
Councillor Charles Yarwood, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategy and Assets, said: "Having comprehensively reviewed the Consultation from Heathrow Airport Ltd (HAL), Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) has now submitted a formal response.
"MVDC recognises the economic benefits that airport growth in the region can bring. We are mindful however that the same growth will have adverse impacts on our local communities and residents, particularly through increased noise pollution.
"Our response comments on the issues that could potentially impact our residents, those of the expansion of the airport and the redesign of the airspace around the airport.
"We are seeking an equitable and fair distribution of aircraft noise, as opposed to concentrated flights paths, we question the real value of respite versus sustained noise periods and we do not support any flights at an altitude lower than currently experienced by our communities.
"We have outlined a number of matters and local factors that HAL should take into account when planning future flight routes. These include considering the potential noise impact on residents, schools, hospitals and community buildings. We have also highlighted the matter of potential impact on the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
"We look forward to further consultation with HAL in due course."
