Registration Opens for Free Sports Sessions

Registration has now opened for young people of all abilities who either live or go to school in Mole Valley to sign up to free beginners training sessions ahead of this summer's Specsavers Surrey Youth Games. Participants will not only have the opportunity to socialise and have fun playing sport, but they could also be in with a chance of representing Team Mole Valley on event weekend.

Run by local community sports clubs and leisure providers, each led by qualified DBS-checked coaches, the training sessions start towards the end of April for a six to eight-week period. The Games feature a wide-range of sports, including Couch-to-2k, Lacrosse, Boccia and Boxing. Beginners aged 6 to 16 years old can register to take part in these sessions until 22 May 2019. Last year's competition saw Team Mole Valley compete at a very high level against the other Surrey districts and boroughs, achieving a very respectable medal haul including ten individual judo medals. This year's event will be held on 15 and 16 June 2019 at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

Students at schools across the district are being encouraged to sign up to the annual event. The Primary and Secondary schools with the highest percentage of pupils participating in the training sessions can look forward to receiving £150 of sports equipment.

Councillor David Hawksworth CBE, MVDC's Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: "The annual Specsavers Surrey Youth Games offers young people of all abilities across the district the opportunity to develop their sporting skills and show off their talent on a county-wide stage. The free training sessions provide the chance to try something new, have fun, make friends and build confidence, all the while feeling the benefits of getting out and active. Spaces are limited so make sure you don't miss out."
