Dorking Friday Market Summer Celebration Day - Friday 26 July!
On 26 July, come on down to Dorking's Friday Market Summer Celebration Day, which will be full of extra stalls, fun for the children and all the usual fresh produce and household goods at great prices!
The stall holders can't wait to welcome everyone to browse their goods and to show newcomers what a traditional market is all about.
Children can have their faces painted free of charge between 10am - 2.30pm. Surrey Hills Community radio will be supplying the music and additional stalls will spread in to St Martin's Walk shopping centre.
Jeremy Brooks, Riverside Fish, Market Stall Holder said, "I am here every week, it's a sociable place and we have a chat with everyone that comes down. Our customers enjoy shopping with us and go on to pick up their other bits and pieces in the town. Markets have an important role to play in keeping town centres alive. Having a special day like the 26th, when the kids have broken up from school will hopefully give people an incentive to pop down and see what they can pick up here."
Councillor Clayton Wellman Cabinet Member for Economic Prosperity said, "I do hope the people of Mole Valley will come down to the market on the 26th July to find out more about what is sold here and help spread the word. Dorking is famous for being a market town and with our traditional Friday Market and the Dorking Business Improvement District's (BID) new Artisan Market on a Sunday of every month, we hope to bring that description right up to date.
"We're all familiar with the national challenge of High Streets struggling to compete with online retailers, but you don't get the fun, the interaction or the laughs online. Dorking's traditional Friday Market and the BID's new monthly event are great experiences. They're also great ways of enticing more people into the town centre. Markets add to the economic and social health of town centres, boosting footfall for the benefit of other businesses. The Friday Market already does a steady trade, but we want to boost its profile. This event is to spread the word and create a bit of a buzz for shoppers and stall holders alike.
"We are also very keen to hear from any potential new stall holders for either market, and we would like to thank St Martin's Walk for their support with this celebration event."
