Leatherhead Duck Race Returns June 9th
The beloved annual Leatherhead Duck Race is back, and this year it is bigger and better than ever.
Leatherhead Bridge will be closed to allow more spectators to watch the races safely and there are also more stalls this year, meaning more activities and fun for all in attendance.
The fun begins at the bridge from 1pm. Ducks can be sponsored for £1 on the day, or in advance from the Swan Centre in Leatherhead or Dorking Halls. The ducks and races are sponsored by local businesses and there are prizes to be won if your duck crosses the finish line ahead of all others on the day. Local Leatherhead businesses are also invited to decorate their shop fronts to show their support for the Duck Race.
The Swan Race is held to support the Leatherhead Parish Church. Plastic swans can be sponsored on the day for £1. There are plenty of prizes up for grabs too!
The races start with six tote races, culminating with the tote race grand final. Next is the Swan Race, followed by the mass Duck Race - the highlight of the event. This year there will also be themed races - including a pub-themed one - meaning businesses under the same category can compete. The pub-themed race will be sponsored by The Running Horse Pub who are also running a BBQ on the day. There will be plenty of non-racing activities to keep the kids entertained, including a model railway and storytelling by the river bank, all from 1pm.
If you have not experienced the Duck Race in previous years, now is the time. Why not wander along the river bank, enjoying the stalls, or have a picnic with the family down by the water's edge? Councillor Clayton Wellman, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Economy said, "Good luck to all who enter. We really hope as many people as possible can join the summer fun on June 9th."
Leading up to the Duck Race, children can complete an exciting, duck-themed word search to be entered into a prize draw! These can be found on the back of the Leatherhead Duck Race flyer. The flyers will be available from the Swan Centre, Dorking Halls and throughout Leatherhead.
