Walk for Health Scheme Success

Around 280 people now join one of Mole Valley District Council's (MVDC) Walk for Health walks each week. Volunteer walk leaders are still needed to help the scheme continue to grow.

The Walk for Health scheme is a programme of fun, free and accessible weekly walks ideal for anyone looking to become more active and make new local friends.

More than 500 residents are now registered, and 11 different walks feature on the timetable, with five to six taking place weekly across Mole Valley.

The scheme is made possible thanks to its 17 volunteers. Training, support and equipment is provided to all volunteers. All that is required is an enthusiasm for walking and a desire to help others improve their health. Walks can take place anywhere in Mole Valley, during the day or evening.

Councillor Stephen Cooksey, Leader of Mole Valley District Council, said: "Walk for Health began four years ago, and it's wonderful to see how many people have joined us in this time. Walking can have a significant impact on our physical and psychological health, even more so when it's done with others. If you love walking, please do think about joining us. We really do need more volunteers to ensure we can continue to deliver such a fantastic range of weekly walks."
